The symptom is always the same: two teams look at the same funnel and get different numbers. From there, meetings become debates about which data is correct instead of what to do.
A taxonomy as a contract
The fix starts with a tracking plan: an event model with agreed names, properties and meaning. It's a contract between product, data and engineering. Without it, each implementation introduces its own ambiguity.
- Define business-oriented events, not technical-implementation ones.
- Capture with Segment or Jitsu and pipe to a single source of truth.
- Create metric-review rituals to keep the discipline alive.
When the numbers are reliable, discussions shift from ‘is the data correct?’ to ‘what do we do about it?’. That's where a real data culture begins.
